Studio Abhyas launches its Dance Training Project (DTP), a collaborative effort of Justin McCarthy and Navtej Johar. The DTP is envisioned to be a comprehensive dance training project that offers training in Bharatanatyam technique, Carnatic music, yoga plus body conditioning, improvisation, choreography physical theater as well as critical studies. The project has been launched with six candidates.

Body, Breath, Memory and Mind, a Yoga Retreat in HP: Studio Abhyas offered a one week intensive yoga retreat at the Jagori Training and Research Academy, Sidhbari, Kangra, HP. Headstand Workshop by Monica Chand: The headstand workshop offered a practice of asanas specially designed to build strength and balance in order to achieve the inverted pose, and also included restorative counter poses to protect the body from injuries.

Studio Abhyas took a step forward in extending its Power of Seeing project to the colleges by making a presentation at Sri Venkateshwara College. It was facilitated by the Social Service Society of the College. Through the presentation, Navtej Johar appealed to the students not to turn a blind eye to the chaos in the cities in terms of the design and maintenance of the civic elements around.

As part of the Studio Abhyas's Urban Design Initiative, Navtej Johar gave a presentation on "Power of Seeing" to initiate a six-month project with class VIII students of Bluebells International School, New Delhi. In his talk, Navtej spoke about the need for keeping an eye on the design and maintenance of civic amenities in and around us to
ensure all of it is user friendly. During the course of the year-long project, the Abhyas Team met the students on weekly basis to take things forward.

The three-hour introductory workshop on Vedic Chanting focused on the rules of Vedic chanting and how to prepare the body for chanting: involving correct posture, refining breathing techniques, voice articulation, and most importantly practices of transforming the body into a "listening body"— listening being an important factor in cultivating attention.

The module was carefully designed keeping in mind the observations made by the teachers.

The Vedas are to be chanted in a prescribed manner strictly adhering to rules that have remained unaltered over the ages. After an introduction to the principles of Vedic Chanting with demonstration, the participants were guided through a practice of Vedic Chanting.

Architect Pradeep Sachdev, urban designer and architect of Dilli Haat and the Garden of Five Senses, New Delhi, took the sixty children from St. Mary's School (part of the Abhyas Studio’s Urban Design Project) on a field trip to Vikas Sadan, where his team of architects have modeled a street factoring all aspects that constitute a street in great detail, i.e. the pavement, parking, signage, bus shelters, etc, as well as keeping in mind the needs of the varied users: pedestrians, hawkers, motorists etc.

Abhyas Trust’s Urban Design Project was formally launched in the schools in July 2005 by an introduction of the project by Navtej Johar to the students of St. Mary's School, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi.

Studio Abhyas held a five-day retreat in Mukteshwar with the aim deepen the understanding of asana and pranayama practice. The participants stayed at Camp Purple in tents overlooking the Himalayan ranges, practiced in the open, took long walks in the thick forests and enjoying bonfires.

Abhyas Trust in collaboration with the Craft Revival Trust hosted a lecture by architect Sanjay Prakash, titled "Metabolism of the Future City: A Case Study from the Goa 2100 Project", at the India International Centre. With lecture, the Trust launched its Urban Design Initiative.

Studio Abhyas offered a two-week yoga and meditation intensive for senior students. Conducted by Navtej Johar, the workshop aimed at going beyond the physical and to place a personal focus at the center of one’s practice. The Studio has also started a Yoga Sutra Study Group and a weekly
teachers-training course.

Studio Abhyas offered a week long retreat at Landour, Mussoorie. An intense practice infused with an element of leisure with an aim to blend yoga into the participant’s daily routine.

Monica Chand and Navtej Johar were invited by The Shriram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, to conduct a workshop with their elementary school teachers to create a yoga module for the children to practice at the start of the day and then at different times during the day. The aim was to allow the children a time to pause, stretch and focus.

The Abhyas Trust was invited by Minister Tourism, Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury to make a presentation cum yoga-performance to mark the launch of the ministry’s Spiritual Tourism initiative, at the Hotel Ashok, New Delhi. The Abhyas ensemble comprising of Monica Chand, Lokesh Bhardwaj and Navtej Johar, gave a yoga-asana based performance and were joined by Neeru Nagpal, Deeksha Nath, Sunil Mehra for Vedic Chanting; G. Raghuraman (flute) and G. Elangovan (vocal) gave musical support.

Shri T.K.V. Desikachar, the founder of the Sri Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai, visited Studio Abhyas and conducted a workshop introducing many new tools of yoga practice. We were very honoured and delighted to have our teacher with us and have him share a few pearls of wisdom with all present. Shri. Desikachar was accompanied by S. Sridharan, Managing Trustee of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram.

The Abhyas Trust hosted the Delhi release of The Yoga of the Yogi, a biography of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, written by Kausthub Desikachar, grandson of T. Krishnamacharya. The book was released by Rajya Sabha Member, Dr. P.C. Alexander, at the India Habitat Center.
The event was co-presided by Shri T.K.V Desikachar and Mr. S Sridharan from Chennai and Mr. Madhavan Nambiar (IAS).
